Brighton based Director of Brunswick Construction – Simon Charmak – has worked with River Oaks Homes on listed buildings, restorations, new builds, property conversion and extensions.  He has a BSc and MSc in Project Management Construction.  He has worked in residential development for over a decade, managing projects of all sizes.

This past year even more of us have re-centered in the home environment and it has become crucial to get the most out of the space we have available.

Brunswick Construction is not just a name picked out from Companies House. I grew up in and around the Regency architecture of Brighton and Hove. Brunswick Square in particular was close to the locality of my father’s office and it allowed me to see the majesty of good architecture, the ambiance of a well thought through living space and admire the timeless marrying of style, functionality and beauty.

My father is in Property and I trained from an early age to go into that field, simply put I shared his love of development, seeing a project through to completion and shaping the environment we live in.

There was no free ride into his business, I had to earn my stripes and study hard. I applied my self to get a BSc and MSc in Project Management Construction and only then did I get my chance start working and learn the trade from the foundations up, in the real world.

I’ve worked on large projects, from brownfield sites to bringing old buildings back to life. It was through this formative period I began to realise my longterm passion wasn’t going to be the hundred apartment management jobs — though they taught me a lot — but it would be working with real people, in their much loved and hard worked for properties.

I initially accepted to manage a few extensions jobs, one for a partner and one for an acquaintance. I enjoyed the process to such a degree that I decided it was time to make the leap into my own company dedicated to home expansions or as I call it — home growing.

From the first consultation, to the eventual signing off each project, it’s what I find fascinating and rewarding.
